JAMES W. HALL, JR.
A
CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYER
YOU CAN TRUST IN A TIME OF NEED
Attorney James W. Hall, Jr. zealously
defends his clients accused of violations of criminal laws including
traffic laws. He handles felonies and misdemeanors in many courts in
Georgia. He also handles Federal cases in parts of Georgia and
Florida.
The focus of Mr. Hall's practice has
always been criminal defense law not only because that's what he
found interesting and challenging, but because he believes adamantly
in protecting the constitutional rights of those accused of crimes.
Mr. Hall is a 1972 graduate of
Valdosta State College with an AB in History and a 1975 graduate of
the University of Georgia School of Law. While attending UGA Law
School Mr. Hall worked for the Prisoner Legal Counseling Program and
quickly discovered how much difference a dedicated lawyer can make in
getting a favorable resolution in a tough situation. He also
observed how not having a lawyer who will fight for your rights can
result in an unjust conviction or an overly harsh sentence.
Mr. Hall's father, James W. Hall, Sr.
was a criminal defense attorney in Valdosta from 1960 until he
passed away in 1987. Mr. Hall worked for his father part time while
he attended law school, and had the good fortune to work for him
full time from 1977 until the mid 1980s.
Almost immediately upon graduation from
law school, Mr. Hall began trying criminal cases. His second jury
trial resulted in an acquittal of all charges (a not guilty
verdict). This was the first of many successful representations of
clients accused of crimes. In over 30 years, Mr. Hall has had "not
guilty" verdicts in all types of cases from murder to speeding. At
one point Mr. Hall won 8 of 10 criminal jury trials including 5 in a
row.
In addition to appearing in Georgia's
Superior, State, Municipal, and Probate Courts, Mr. Hall handles
Federal criminal cases in Georgia and Florida, primarily in the
Middle District of Georgia and the Northern District of Florida. In
Federal Court, he has successfully defended individuals accused of
Federal drug violations and other charges. He has become an expert
in dealing with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines through study,
numerous seminars, and experience in handling Federal cases.
Mr. Hall's practice also includes work
in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States, the
Georgia Supreme Court, and the Georgia Court of Appeals.
The following experiences in particular
have helped Mr. Hall become a better lawyer:
-
He was an Assistant Public Defender in
Georgia for three and one half years, handling nothing but felony
criminal cases, and normally was assigned the most serious cases in the
office.
-
He is a trained Mediator who has conducted over 200
mediations. This valuable experience sharpened his negotiating skills.
-
He was a Lowndes County Magistrate
Court Judge for about four and a half years. In that Court he
gained more knowledge while handling criminal matters such as arrest
warrant and search warrant applications, preliminary hearings, and
bond hearings.
Mr. Hall is past secretary of the
Valdosta Bar Association and is past President of the Valdosta
Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He is a member of the
Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
Most importantly, James W. Hall, Jr. is
a lawyer who cares about his clients, and will defend and fight for
them and protect their rights under the Constitution of the United States.
